Why offices in Melbourne and Brisbane? Why not?
Do you remember the term telecommuting? In the 1990s, everyone was excited by the idea that technology made it possible to work from anywhere. We said pithy things like, “work is something you do, not a place where you go”, as we waited for our dial-up internet to connect.
When wireless broadband become widespread in the late 2000s, the idea of working from home, a café, or a park, became a reality, and some did. But most people continued the daily commute to the office regardless.
Then Covid-19 happened, and we were all forced to work from home. For many people, it was a case of, “OMG, why didn’t I do this years ago.” One of the lasting impacts of this pandemic, will be the number of workplaces that will never return to the way they were as people adapt to working remotely.
It is the same for us at Create & Co. We know that great ideas and good design isn’t reliant on geography or a physical space. Meetings can happen online, work time can be adjusted to fit with other obligations, rather than the other way around. Ultimately, being in the environment of your own choosing facilitates inspiration and creativity. For Chris, that’s Melbourne; for Ubi, that’s Brisbane.
It’s not so much about work-life balance, it’s about life, full-stop.
